P.V. Pedals Ride, Thursday 9/11/2021

Hi Everyone!

I’ve attached the 2021 Picnic Route. This route will be slightly longer than our weekly rides. As always feel free to change it to however suits you. The ride will leave at 10:30. We will require you to sign in. You will get a beer token for your $3.00 donation, which will go towards picnic costs.

Joan from Mount Nittanee Kombucha has donated a few bottles of Kombucha brew for self pours. If you would like to bring something else to drink, feel free.

With this being the end of the season ride, I will be using up the old cans of spray chalk to mark the route. The turns will be marked, although there might be arrows of different colors.

The Elk Creek Cafe has generously offered the use of their Creekside location for our picnic. My wife, Bobbie and her co-worker Barbara (Bobbie’s KitchenLLC) will prepare the lunch.

Picnic Menu

Pulled Pork with BBQ sauce
Coleslaw
Srheed’s Famous Black Bean Burgers with lettuce, tomato and salsa
Potato Salad with Dijon Vinaigrette
Tortilla Chips
Watermelon, Canteloupe and Blueberries
Strawberry Lemonade
Cake + Cookies

After lunch we will have a free raffle and give away a few items to several of our behind the scene supporters.

Safety Tips

There are some narrow roads on this route. Please stay in your lane as we head towards Coburn and around blind curves and over crests throughout the ride. Please also be cautious when crossing Route 45.

Thanks!

We’ll begin by going straight through the light in Millheim toward Coburn. Turn right on Pine Creek Rd and follow onto Cooper St. / Long St. into Spring Mills. Turn right on School Rd then take a quick right left and cross Route 45 onto Penns Cave Rd. Follow as it becomes Ridge Rd. Take a left onto Middle Rd, left onto Bitner Hollow Rd. back to Penns Cave Rd. Cross 45 and bare left onto Water Street and left onto Long St. / Cooper St. / Penns Creek Rd. Take a left on Paradise, right on Oak. Continue straight onto Long Lane, then right on Mill St, and finally a left on Penn St. to head back to Elk Creekside.

Short-Cuts

Turn around in Spring Mills
Or, cross Rt 45 but stay right and take Allison Rd. Turn left onto Green Grove and left onto Penns Cave Road to return to Spring Mills.
Take a look at the attached map to familiarize yourself with it.

Looking forward to seeing everyone on Saturday!

UPDATE TO ROUTE!

Before I show you the route this week I want to take a minute to share something with the club. I get scared at the start of every weekly PV Pedals + Pints club ride. Yes, scared because I fear someone is going to get hurt…or worse.

7/28/22 – Dan Stearns Tribute Ride

7/28/22 – Dan Stearns Tribute Ride

This week we are riding one of our favorite routes, but for a different reason. Thursday we are “Pedaling for a Purpose” – with the purpose being the Dan Stearns Foundation. Please read the article to learn about how much more there was to Dan than just one of our weekly riders.

7/21/22 – Brush Valley Backwards

7/21/22 – Brush Valley Backwards

We’re riding to Madisonburg this week in Brush Valley. The route is rightfully named, the Brush Valley Reverse. This route takes us through the Millheim Narrows. I’ll once again try and arrange with Ed from the Millheim Fire Company to follow us through the Narrows for a enjoyable start to the ride. We are on our own for the return ride. Feel free to alter the route if riding in the Narrows makes you uncomfortable.
